The UN calls for a ceasefire on the Lebanese-Israeli border

The parties to the conflict on the Lebanese-Israeli border must immediately cease fire and return to the observance of the agreements reached under UN Security Council Resolution 1701, according to a joint statement received from UNIFIL and UNSCOL.

"In light of today's alarming developments across the Blue Line, the UN Coordination Headquarters in Lebanon and UNIFIL call on all parties to cease fire and refrain from escalation," the document said.

According to the communique, the continuation of the armed confrontation violates UN Security Council Resolution 1701 of 2006, which is the only mechanism for maintaining peace on the Lebanese-Israeli border.
