Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin called Tehran for "dialogue, negotiations and peace" during a telephone conversation with Iran's new president, Masoud Pezeshkian.
According to a Vatican statement, Parolin expressed the Pope's "serious concern about the events taking place, reaffirming the need to avoid an escalation of the conflict at all costs and to prefer dialogue, negotiations, and peace instead."
Pezeshkian, emphasizing Iran's moral positions, stated that Israel's actions contradict all human and legal principles.
According to the IRNA agency, the Iranian president stated, "According to international standards, the right to respond to the aggressor is guaranteed."
