A forest fire that broke out northeast of Athens on Sunday spread to Mount Penteli, north of the Greek capital, prompting mass evacuations.
Due to the fire, the residents of Nea and Palaia Penteli settlements were evacuated at around 5 am, and shortly after, the evacuation order was issued for the settlements of Draf, Dion, Damarasi Rafina, Dau Penteli, Agios Spyridon and Anatoli Nea. At the same time, the staff and patients of the Penteli Children's Hospital and the 414th Military Hospital, as well as the St. Ephraim Monastery of Anatolia Region and the Penteli Monastery, were evacuated.
