The new leader of Hamas is interested in a deal with Israel

Yahya Sinwar, the new head of the political bureau of the Palestinian radical Hamas movement, expressed interest in reaching an agreement with Israel on a ceasefire and the release of hostages before the situation with Iran escalates. Channel 12 of Israeli television reported this, referring to Hamas sources.

Yesterday, The Wall Street Journal, citing the names of Arab negotiators, reported that Sinwar's election to the post of Hamas leader could complicate peace negotiations with Israel. According to them, he will take a "tough and maximalist position" to force the Jewish state to compromise. In turn, right-wing Israeli politicians, as the publication writes, insist on the destruction of the military potential of Hamas and the killing of Sinwar.
