US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said Yahya Sinwar is the new leader of the political wing of Hamas and is capable of securing a ceasefire agreement, ending the war in Gaza, and freeing the hostages. Blinken noted that Sinwar "was and remains the main decision-maker when it comes to signing a ceasefire."
Blinken said that after months of intense negotiations, negotiations on the deal's implementation continued. Blinken added that efforts to reach a ceasefire are in the final stages but are disrupted by tensions with Iran.
