The assassination of the Hamas leader was planned months in advance

Referring to its source, CNN reported that Ismail Haniyeh, the political leader of Hamas killed in Tehran, was killed by a bomb hidden in a guest house. The bomb was hidden about two months ago in a guesthouse where Haniyeh is known to have been staying in Tehran and detonated remotely while he was in his room.

The Iranian government and Hamas claim that Israel carried out the assassination. Israel neither confirmed nor denied it. US officials were told about the operation by Israeli officials only after the assassination, the source said.
