The United States welcomed the meeting of Turkey's and Armenia's special representatives on the long-closed border, calling the negotiations for settling relations "a positive step towards establishing peace and stability in the South Caucasus."
"We welcome this meeting. The United States views the settlement of relations between Turkey and Armenia as a positive step in establishing peace and stability in the South Caucasus," the State Department spokesperson told Turkish Anadolu Agency.
"Armenia and Azerbaijan continue to make significant progress in concluding a peace agreement, and we are determined to support that process. The time for peace has come," the spokesperson added.
It should be noted that the special representatives of Armenia and Turkey, the Deputy Speaker of the Armenian Parliament, Ruben Rubinyan, and the Turkish Ambassador, Serdar Kilic, met on Tuesday at the common border.
