O'Brien, the US State Department's Deputy Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, spoke about Armenia-USA, Armenia-Azerbaijan, and Armenia-Russia relations during the Senate hearings.
"We support Prime Minister Pashinyan's peace efforts. Russia strives that if something happens, it should happen on its terms. I think both those countries are disappointed with Russia's participation. We are working so that the desire for peace is expressed in the peace agreement. Why is that important? Central Asian countries are rich, and their only exit to global markets is through Russia or China. If we open the roads through Azerbaijan and Armenia, they will gain access to global markets and reduce their dependence on Russia and China," O'Brien said.
