Charles Michel, the President of the European Council, is resuming his efforts to establish stable peace in the South Caucasus.
Speaking to POLITICO, two senior diplomats confirmed that the former Belgian prime minister held bilateral meetings with the leaders of both Armenia and Azerbaijan earlier this month as part of the European Political Community summit in the United Kingdom. Michel also wrote a letter urging both sides to return to the table and "finalize the peace agreement" by progressing on outstanding issues such as border demarcation.
"At the end of the day, both sides need to stop playing games and seal the deal because President Michel has done everything possible to reach a peace agreement," said a senior EU diplomat close to Michel.
