US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has said Washington will help defend Israel if it is attacked while working to reduce tensions in the region following the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran.
Austin tells a news conference in the Philippines that a broader war in the Middle East is not inevitable.
