An earthquake occurred in the Los Angeles area on Monday afternoon.
The US Geological Survey reported a 4.9-magnitude earthquake centered near Barstow, California, about 100 miles northeast of Los Angeles. According to the USGS, the quake was at a depth of about 5 miles.
The earthquake magnitude was downgraded from the initial report to 5.1.
