Turkey sends troops to Somalia for 2 years

The Turkish parliament approved the president's proposal to deploy armed forces in Somalia for two years. In a decision signed by Recep Erdogan, Turkey stated that it has been providing training, assistance, and advisory support for security and stability in Somalia for more than ten years.

Since 2009, the Turkish military has been actively supporting international efforts to combat piracy, armed robbery, and maritime terrorism in the Gulf of Aden, off the coast of Somalia, the Arabian Sea, and the surrounding areas:
