Three rounds of voting had to be held to determine the winner. According to the regulations, in the third round, the candidate who received a simple majority of votes is awarded victory. 220 MPs voted in favor of Brown-Pivet, representative of the "Together" pro-presidential coalition. His main competitor, the candidate of the left-wing "New People's Front” the communist Andre Chassaigne, received 207 votes, and the representative of the nationalist "National Union" Sébastien Chenou, 141 votes.
