More than 8,000 polling stations for the People's Council (unicameral parliament) elections opened at 07:00 in Damascus and other Syrian cities.
According to the Supreme Judicial Committee for Election Control, 1,516 candidates representing all regions of the country are fighting for 250 parliamentary seats. According to forecasts, the composition of the parliament may change by more than 50% due to the voting.
