Britain's new prime minister has confirmed plans to end deportations of illegal immigrants

New British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has confirmed that he has no intention of continuing to work on the former Conservative government's scheme to deport illegal migrants to Rwanda.

"The Rwanda scheme was dead and buried before it started. It was never a deterrent. I'm not ready to continue those tricks that do not act as a deterrent," Starmer said.

Former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said the first migrants would be sent to Rwanda only after the July 4 general elections.
