NATO has a new Secretary General

Mark Rutte was elected the new Secretary General of NATO. Mark Rutte was the Prime Minister of the Netherlands before that.

The ambassadors approved Rutte's candidacy for the NATO countries in Brussels. The official appointment is expected to take place in July at the organization's summit in Washington.

Rutte's term of office will be five years. He will replace the current Secretary General of NATO, the Norwegian Jens Stoltenberg.
