Georgia can restore diplomatic relations with Russia

Sources of the Georgian TV channel Mtavari Arkhi claim that the governments of Russia and Georgia are working towards the restoration of diplomatic relations. It is reported that the selection of the employees of the Embassy of Georgia in Moscow is already underway. Diplomatic relations between the countries were broken in 2008.

However, the interlocutors of the channel close to the ruling "Georgian Dream" party deny that the party has such plans. They consider the dissemination of information about the opening of the embassy in Moscow to be unjustified. Georgia severed diplomatic relations with Russia in 2008 following a Russian "peacekeeping" operation and Russia's recognition of South Ossetia and Abkhazia as independent states.
