The BBC reports that the Hamas group has announced that it has responded to the cease-fire plan proposed by the United States in Gaza.
A senior representative of the group told the BBC that they are still demanding a permanent cease-fire commitment from Israel.
At the same time, the Reuters agency, citing an Israeli official, reports that Hamas allegedly rejected the offer to release the hostages. The cease-fire plan, proposed by US President Joe Biden and approved by the UN Security Council, calls for a six-week cease-fire to be made permanent, as well as the release of Israeli hostages from Hamas captivity and the release of Palestinian prisoners from Israeli prisons. Qatar and Egypt, which, along with the US, are mediating talks between Israel and Hamas, confirmed that the Palestinian group had responded to the offers.
In a statement on Tuesday evening, Hamas called for a "total halt" to hostilities in Gaza.
