The President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, has called for a referendum in response to the repeal of the "Transparency of Foreign Influence" law.
"European future or Russian slavery? 84 people cannot decide that for us. They pressed the button, writing their names on one side of the story. We must do everything to prepare for October 26, and our answer is today.
This energy, which you have today, should be used to collect signatures and hold a referendum," he said.
"According to the Referendum Law, the President of Georgia is authorized to call a referendum at the request of the Parliament of Georgia, the Government of Georgia, or at least 200,000 voters within 30 days after receiving notification of its holding.
A referendum can be held on particularly important state issues, including issues and principles stipulated by Georgian laws, international treaties, and agreements.
