Salome Zurabishvili presented a specific program for the opposition

The President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, has announced that she is proposing an action plan in the form of a charter to reconcile the pro-European opposition parties in the country to present a united front in the elections.

The steps that the signatories of this charter undertake to take are also the answer to the 9 points of the European recommendation.

Here are the steps.

1. The abolition of laws that harm the European way of the country.

In particular, the "transparency of foreign influence" law, several amendments to the electoral code, the "wiretapping" law, the offshore law, etc.

Politically motivated cases against the protesters who participated in the 2024 demonstrations will also be canceled, and amnesty will be accepted.

2. Liberation of the judicial system and restoration of trust in it.

3. The radical reform of the Supreme Council of Justice

4. Other priority reform steps

General Prosecutor's Office, fundamental reform of the State Security Service (SSS) and the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), exceptional investigative service, anti-corruption agency, and National Bank Regulatory bodies.

Improvement of the electoral system

The rules for electing and hiring the CEC president will be improved, the electoral threshold will be lowered, the opportunity to create alliances will be restored, the rules for financing parties will be revised, and the diaspora will be allowed to participate in the elections without hindrance.

Creating a new political reality

We, the signatories of this charter, who will receive a mandate from the Georgian people in the elections of October 26, 2024, undertake to fulfill the conditions written in that charter until the end of the first spring session. At the end of it, extraordinary parliamentary elections will be prepared and held in free and fair conditions.
