Israeli forces are continuing military operations on the northern edge of Gaza to retake the area from Hamas militants, while in the south, tanks and troops are advancing along the highway to Rafah.
For weeks, the most intense fighting has raged in the north and the south. Israeli operations in Rafah, which borders Egypt, have closed the main aid crossing. Humanitarian groups say this has worsened an already dire situation.
