The US is the most significant defense spender in NATO

In 2023, NATO, which includes 31 countries, will spend $1.341 trillion on military spending, which is 55% of global expenditure. The US defense budget increased by 2.3%, reaching $916 billion, or 68% of the total military spending of the alliance's member states.

Most of NATO's European members also increased their military spending last year. Their share of the total budget reached 28%, the highest indicator of the decade. The remaining 4% goes to Canada and Turkey. Among the European states, in 2022-2023, Poland increased its military expenditures by 75% to 31.6 billion. This is the 14th-largest defense budget in the world.
