US President Joe Biden had a telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during which the parties discussed the situation related to the hostages held by the Palestinian Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip, the White House reports.
"The president has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to Israel's security following an unprecedented Iranian missile attack earlier this month. The leaders also discussed the ongoing negotiations on releasing hostages and the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip," the statement said.
In addition, Biden and Netanyahu discussed the need to increase the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, including by opening new crossings.
The leaders of the two countries also discussed the situation surrounding a possible attack by the Israeli army in the city of Rafah, in connection with which Biden "confirmed his clear position" on this issue, the White House added.
