Apple has removed Meta's WhatsApp application and Threads, as well as Telegram, Signal, and Line messengers, from the Chinese App Store at China's request.
The Chinese regulators' demands are motivated by national security considerations. All the listed programs can work in China and bypass information blocks. According to unofficial data, the demands relate to political content and "problematic" publications about Xi Jinping.
