"The EU and NATO do not have a strategy towards Russia". Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic

"Neither NATO nor the EU has a strategy towards Russia," Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky said, speaking to a DW reporter in Brussels on April 3. "There are no general debates about our strategy towards Russia, either in NATO or in the EU. I consider this wrong. Let's hold such discussions. During such a debate, we should also discuss how the war in Ukraine should end," he said.

"Since we don't have such a real strategy, we have to stick to our principles," the minister emphasized, listing the principles of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity within its international borders, the 1991 Budapest Memorandum. He singled out the principle that the state and the people of Ukraine should have the right to vote when deciding on future peace with Russia.
