The European Union warned Georgia again

The European Union warns the Georgian authorities to stay away from the adoption of the "Transparency of Foreign Influence" law and calls on them to uphold their obligations to promote democracy. This is stated in the statement of the EU representation in Georgia.

"The EU regrets that this issue is being discussed again, despite the strong public and international response in March 2023. Creating and maintaining a favorable environment for civil society organizations and ensuring the freedom of civil society are the basis of democracy. It is also of crucial importance for the EU accession process," the statement said. In the European Union, they remind that Georgia has received the status of a candidate for membership in the community on the condition of carrying out reforms. The recommendations related, in particular, to ensuring the free work of civil society, as well as to the fight against anti-European disinformation.
