Turkey intends to join the EU

The Turkish Foreign Ministry announced that Turkey intends to join the EU, a strategic goal for the country.

"EU membership is, as before, a strategic goal for Ankara. Turkey's EU accession process is too important to be left to the discretion of the narrow political agendas of several countries," said Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan during a press conference with his Spanish counterpart Albares. Earlier, Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Ankara would strive to join the European Union. Turkey has been a candidate since 1999.
