The Ministry of Defense of Syria announced that early on Tuesday morning, Israel fired rockets at several military facilities outside the borders of the Syrian capital, Damascus.
Syrian air defenses intercepted Israeli "missiles and intercepted some of them," the ministry said in a statement. Iran has been a critical supporter of President Bashar al-Assad during the nearly 12-year conflict in Syria. Its support for Damascus and the Lebanese Hezbollah group has led to regular Israeli airstrikes designed to limit Tehran's extraterritorial military power.
