India is the world's leading arms buyer

India has become the world's leading arms importer. Import of weapons to the country increased by 4.7%. Although Russia remained India's main arms supplier (36% of imports), this was the first five-year period since 1960–64 when supplies from Russia (or until 1991 the Soviet Union) accounted for less than half of total imports.

Pakistan also significantly increased its arms imports (+43%). 2019-23 Pakistan has become the fifth largest importer of arms, and China, as its main supplier, has become even more dominant, providing 82% of Pakistan's arms imports.
