The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that Ukraine's armed forces seek to build a defensive line similar to the fortification system the Russian military created more than a year ago. During an attempted counterattack in 2023, the Armed Forces of Ukraine were "entangled by Russian forces in a complex network of obstacles that was almost impossible to overcome." Russia's defense consisted of multi-layered lines of structures: anti-tank fortifications, trenches, and ditches. Now, the Ukrainian military is "trying to repeat the obstacles that Russia created on its front more than a year ago."
