Victoria Nuland, a high-ranking official of the U.S. State Department, will retire in the coming weeks, U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken stated. Nuland is stepping down as deputy secretary of state for political affairs, where she played a vital role in the U.S. response to the war in Ukraine.
A "CNN" source reported that Juliana Smith, the current U.S. ambassador to NATO, is expected to replace Nuland. Meanwhile, Under Secretary of State for Management John Bassey will serve as acting undersecretary.
