"European countries should provide military support to Armenia." Loiseau

During the discussion yesterday, the European Parliament's parliamentarians stated that they support Yerevan's efforts to reach a peace agreement with Baku and call on the Azerbaijani authorities to complete the peace process.

"However, simply negotiating is not enough," said Nathalie Loiseau, head of the European Parliament's defense subcommittee. "They continue, but they are getting longer and longer. We must convince Baku and Moscow once and for all to respect democracy and the Armenian people who have put their trust in us," said the deputy. In his opinion, EU countries should follow the example of his native France, which trains Armenian soldiers and provides military equipment to Yerevan.

"Baku should know that we will not tolerate any violation of Armenia's sovereignty, and if something happens, we will treat it harshly," said Italian MP Fabio Massimo Castaldo. "For that, the European Union should have free hands, freeing itself from importing Azerbaijani gas and oil," said Czech Marketa Gregorova. He called on the representative of the European Commission to convince his colleagues in Brussels.

In this context, other MPs also called on the EU to have a firmer dialogue with Baku, conduct a consistent policy, and not apply "double standards."

The vote on the resolution on EU relations with Armenia and the peace process in the South Caucasus will take place in the next session of the European Parliament.
