US President Joe Biden said on Monday he hoped a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas conflict in the Gaza Strip would begin the following Monday, as the warring parties appeared to reach an agreement during talks in Qatar that also aimed to broker the release of hostages.
Biden said that he hopes that the ceasefire will begin within days. "Well, hopefully by the end of the weekend," he said when asked when he expected the ceasefire to begin. "My national security adviser tells me we're close. We are close. We're not done yet. I hope we will have a truce next Monday," Biden told reporters during a visit to New York.
