The Hungarian Parliament ratified Sweden's application for NATO membership

The Hungarian Parliament ratified Sweden's application for NATO membership in the first spring session. During the final vote, 188 deputies were in favor, six were against, and four deputies did not vote.

After Turkey ratified Sweden's alliance membership in January, Hungary was the last ally not to do so. After ratification, that country will officially become the 32nd member of NATO.

The ceremony for a new ally to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization is usually held at NATO headquarters in Brussels. At the ceremony, documents are signed, and the flag of the new member of the alliance is raised. The instrument of accession is then deposited with the United States, thus completing the formal process of joining the coalition.

Helsinki and Stockholm applied for NATO membership after the start of the Russian special operation in Ukraine. Finland officially became the 31st member of the bloc on April 4, 2023.
