A CNN investigation has found that the Israeli military has desecrated at most minuscule 16 cemeteries during its ground offensive in Gaza, destroying gravestones, overturning soil, and, in some cases, corpses.
In Khan Yunis, south of Gaza, where hostilities have escalated in recent days, Israeli troops destroyed a cemetery by removing bodies, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) told CNN, as part of a search for the remains of hostages taken by Hamas in the October 7 attacks. CNN has seen satellite images and social media footage showing these operations were systematic.
