The US has imported Russian oil for the first time since the war

In November, the USA imported almost 10,000 barrels of oil of Russian origin worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, RBC notes. Since the start of the war in Ukraine in March 2022, the US has banned the import of energy carriers from Russia. Still, the Russian Ministry of Finance has issued several licenses that make imports possible. According to the database of US foreign trade statistics, in November 2023, the USA imported crude oil of Russian origin worth 749.5 thousand dollars. Before that, the last import of Russian oil to the USA occurred in April 2022.

Despite the sanctions, imports are possible with separate licenses from the US Treasury Department's Foreign Assets Control Department.
