"There is no war; the soldiers are in the barracks; it is time for lasting peace." Hajiev

In an interview with BBC World, Hikmet Hajiyev, assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, referred to Armenian-Azerbaijani relations and the peace treaty.

"Azerbaijan is ready to sign a peace treaty with Armenia. For this reason, Azerbaijan also proposed five fundamental principles and the text of the peace treaty. Currently, there are diplomatic obligations between Armenia and Azerbaijan within the framework of direct negotiations. Armenia and Azerbaijan managed to surprise the world with a positive agenda. On December 7, the two countries issued a joint statement expressing their intention to advance the peace agenda and implement confidence-building measures.

He noted that the last three months can be considered the most peaceful period in the history of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations after the two countries' independence.

"There is no war, brutality, or confrontation. Soldiers return to their barracks. Relative peace is ensured at the local level. Now is the time to turn it into lasting peace, including the signing of a peace treaty," Hajiyev said.
