The EU will allocate 900 million euros to Hungary

As part of a so-far frozen share of recovery funds, the European Commission approved a 900 million euro ($1 billion) advance payment to Hungary on Thursday as the bloc tries to overcome Budapest's veto on aid to Ukraine.

The European Commission had blocked Hungary from the bloc's post-pandemic economic measures amid concerns over corruption and the country's democratic backsliding under Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
