The European Commission has approved giving Georgia the status of a candidate for EU membership

The European Commission issued a statement saying it approves the start of EU membership negotiations between Georgia and Moldova.
"We have adopted our 2023 enlargement package, which recommends opening negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova, granting candidate status to Georgia, and opening accession negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina after reaching the necessary level of compliance," the statement said.
