"We Europeans can support the region with specific recommendations." Baerbock

Today and tomorrow, Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock will visit Armenia and Azerbaijan. Before the visit, the German Foreign Minister referred to Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, the deportation of Nagorno Karabakh, and the situation in the South Caucasus.

Baerbock announced this before leaving for Armenia.

"100,000 children, women, and men in Nagorno-Karabakh were so terrorized that they saw no other option but to flee their homeland for safety.

Armenia has made great efforts to accept refugees. This is the last chapter of the painful history of the peoples of the region, Armenians and Azerbaijanis. The nearly thirty-year conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh has left massive wounds on both sides. The wounds are profound, but they can heal in the long run.

Peace and prosperity are attainable for all. The South Caucasus provides enormous opportunities for this. We, the Europeans, are ready to support the region on this path with specific proposals. The planned submarine communication cable across the Black Sea, as part of the EU's global gateways, could bring Armenia, Azerbaijan, and us closer together. The European Investment Bank has prepared to cover almost half of the total cost of 45 million euros. Together with the countries of the South Caucasus, we want to build a region that will overcome the shadows of the past and shape the people's interests in the future."
