The US Senate has confirmed Admiral Lisa Franchetti as Chief of Naval Operations, the first woman in US history to hold that position.
As Defense Express reports, Franchetti also became the first female member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Franchetti has served as acting commander of the Navy in recent months, retaining his position as deputy chief of staff.
