The EU has promised to invest 6 billion euros in the Western Balkans

The European Commission has promised the Western Balkan countries an investment package of 6 billion euros over 10 years to develop their economies and implement reforms. Ursula von der Leyen, head of the European Commission, said this at a press conference in North Macedonia.

North Macedonia was officially recognized as a candidate for EU membership in 2005, and the negotiations to admit the country to the EU began in July 2022, within the framework of which it is necessary to reach agreements on 33 negotiation chapters or sections, which include all spheres of the country's life, from economy to culture.

For each of them, this country must adapt its national legislation to the requirements of Brussels. Negotiations on any of these chapters still need to be completed.
