One of the first female leaders of Hamas was killed

Jamila al-Shanti, the first female figure to join the radical Palestinian movement "Hamas," was killed in Gaza. The London-based Arabi21 news portal reports this, referring to sources in Gaza. According to them, al-Shanti became the victim of Israeli strikes on the enclave.

Al-Shanti is the widow of Abdel Aziz Rantisi, one of the founders of the Islamist movement. After he died in 2004, he continued his political activities. In particular, al-Shanti headed the Ministry of Women's Affairs in Gaza and, in 2021, became a member of the political bureau of "Hamas."
