UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the deadly explosion at a Gaza hospital in a speech at the Belt and Road conference in Beijing. Guterres said he was "horrified" by the news of hundreds of dead in the blast and called for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in the region.
"I am fully aware of the deep grievances of the Palestinian people after 56 years of occupation, but however serious these grievances may be, they cannot justify the terrorist acts carried out by Hamas against the civilian population on October 7. But these attacks also cannot justify the collective punishment of the Palestinian people," Guterres said.
