"Armenians of Karabakh migrate en masse due to Azerbaijan's military operation." Peter Stano

Peter Stano, the official representative of the EU foreign policy, referred to the deportation of the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh and the actions of Azerbaijan, simultaneously emphasizing their integration into Azerbaijan.

"As a result of the military operation of Azerbaijan on September 19 and 20 and the blockage of the Lachin Corridor in previous months, a mass exodus of Armenians is currently taking place. People leave their homes in Nagorno-Karabakh and seek refuge in Armenia. It is necessary to provide continuous humanitarian assistance to those who are still in need in Karabakh, as well as to those who have left. The European Union supports the work of the Red Cross, which promotes the emergency evacuation of the wounded and the sick and the provision of emergency aid on the spot.

The European Commission announced an additional package of humanitarian aid for 5 million euros to help those displaced from Nagorno Karabakh and those in a vulnerable situation in Karabakh: the EU and its member states are ready to provide additional humanitarian aid.

Azerbaijan is responsible for ensuring the rights and security of Karabakh Armenians, including the right to live in dignity in their homes without intimidation and discrimination and the right to return displaced persons. The UN mission must be able to enter the territory in the next few days: the European Union has taken note of the fact announced by the Azerbaijani authorities about the start of the registration process of Armenian residents through a unique platform. The EU will continue to monitor local developments closely."
