A 6.8-magnitude earthquake occurred on the evening of September 8 in southern Morocco. Another aftershock followed 19 minutes later, with a magnitude of 4.9.
The epicenter was located in a sparsely populated region of the Atlas Mountains, 71 km southwest of Marrakesh, a major tourist center. However, the tremors were also felt in the country's capital, Rabat.
