The French Minister of Education, Gabriel Attal, announced that in schools, France will ban abayas, the traditional Muslim dress that covers the entire body.
"When you enter the classroom, you should not be able to tell the religion of the students just by looking at them. I have decided that abayas should no longer be worn in schools," said Attal. He promised to discuss ways to implement this ban with school leaders next week. The rules are expected to take effect at the start of the new school year, on September 4.
