Foxconn founder to run in Taiwan's presidential election

Billionaire Terry Gou, director of Apple's major supplier, Foxconn, announced on Monday that he will become Taiwan's next president. He will participate in the 2024 elections as an independent candidate.

Gou stepped down as head of Foxconn in 2019 and expressed presidential ambitions that year but withdrew after failing to win the nomination of Taiwan's main opposition party, the Kuomintang KMT, which has traditionally had close ties to China.
