Japan has started releasing irradiated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant into the ocean

On Thursday, the Japanese authorities began releasing the water used to cool the reactors of the Fukushima-1 emergency nuclear power plant into the Pacific Ocean. "Kyodo" agency informs about this. The water tanks installed in Fukushima contain about 1.34 million tons of purified water.

The Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant accident occurred in 2011 due to the strongest earthquake in history.
