The US calls on Azerbaijan to open the Lachin Corridor

"We remain deeply concerned about the closure of the Lachin Corridor, especially for commercial, humanitarian, and private movements," US State Department Deputy Spokesman Vedant Patel said.

According to him, suspending such humanitarian transport worsens the humanitarian situation and undermines the efforts made to strengthen confidence in the peace process. "This worsens the humanitarian situation and undermines efforts to build confidence in the peace process. We urge Azerbaijan's government to restore the corridor's unimpeded passage. We are also aware that today the UN Security Council will meet to discuss the Nagorno Karabakh issue, and we expect an additional discussion there as well."

Speaking about the US position regarding the discussion on the Nagorno-Karabakh issue in the UN Security Council, Patel said: "I am not going to skip ahead of the meeting. However, we have consistently emphasized and reiterated that direct dialogue is necessary to settle this long-standing conflict. We believe that any action that will ultimately bring peace and stability to the peoples of the South Caucasus will be a good and positive step forward."We continue to be deeply concerned about the closure of the Lachin Corridor," said US State Department Deputy Spokesman Vedant Patel.
